Why Protagon
In March 2022, I relocated from Hong Kong to Toronto. As I sought to re-establish my design career in Canada, Protagon’s strategic expansion presented a perfect alignment. Through Indeed, Creative Director Mr. Raffi Kaufman identified my background, leading to an insightful interview process.
CWAVE Design, located in the hubs of Asia – Shenzhen and Hong Kong, is an award-winning global innovation design consultancy that provides one-stop solutions for creativity from concept to product.
Although my prior expertise was in B2B product design rather than retail, I approached the interview with a design consultancy perspective, presenting my strategic analysis of the industry. My research into Protagon revealed a strong synergy between your design philosophy and my own professional values. I was convinced that joining this team was the ideal step to bridge my experience into the Canadian retail design sector. I am deeply grateful to President Mr. Victor Amorosi for the opportunity to contribute to Protagon’s innovative solutions.
My Role
As an Industrial Designer at Protagon, I work in a highly collaborative environment, partnering with Sales, Project Management, Production, Structural and Graphic Design teams, and the studio coordinator to deliver high-impact retail solutions.

- Concept-to-Manufacturing

- Provide Sales-driven Design
- Discovery & Strategy: I begin by analyzing client requirements provided by the Sales team. I conduct design and market research to inform my conceptual development, ensuring every solution is deeply rooted in the brand’s DNA and tailored to the specific retail environment.
- Conceptualization: I present my designs through comprehensive mood boards, design directions, sketches, and high-fidelity renderings to communicate the vision effectively.
- Retail Integration: Beyond the aesthetic display/fixture design, I develop detailed planograms to ensure optimal product placement, ensuring the design integrates seamlessly into the physical retail space.
- Design Engineering & Execution: Once a concept is approved, I transition into design engineering. I produce precise industrial specification drawings that enable the PM team to generate accurate costings.
- Prototyping & Production Support: I collaborate closely with the workshop to develop and test prototypes, verifying functionality and aesthetics before full-scale production. My support extends to final implementation, where I create retail instruction sheets and product catalogues to assist our clients throughout the product lifecycle.
